The newest addition to the Chimoco Design collection is this Native Garden platter, and I am so excited at how well it turned out!
The platter was based on a wedding invitation which simply included a spray of eucalyptus leaves as a hint. With the hopes the wedding would include native flowers in the bouquets, the task was set to include an array of the fabulous flowers of Australia.
Drawing inspiration from my own garden, and those I grew up in, the final collection included a protea; flannel flowers; gum flowers, nut, and leaves; Geraldton wax flowers; wattle; kangaroo paw; and a small number of created blooms.
The flowers on this platter have the distinct difference to others I have done in that not only do they resemble actual flowers, they are also not spread across the piece, rather kept to a solid position in opposite corners.
The secrecy of the messages was a mainstay of the work, with every touch of ‘dark green’ being a letter. The details included:
- The bride and grooms names
- The date of the wedding
- The location of the wedding
- The time of the ceremony
- and the words ‘love’, ‘congratulations’, ‘celebrate’, ‘laughter’, ‘with love from [the gifters]’, ‘happy ever after’, ‘one and only’, ‘marriage’, ‘devotion’, ‘forever’, ‘always’, and ‘I do’.
